The “Five Scrolls” (Hamesh Megillot) are in “Writings” (Ketuvim), which is the third major section of the Bible (Tanakh).  Ruth (Megillat Ruth) is the second scroll of the five biblical scrolls.  The entire scroll fit onto one panel.  The rendering is of the matriarch Naomi and her two daughters-in-law; Ruth clinging to Naomi while Orpah begins her journey back home.

 

Ilana has always had a deep appreciation for the Bible as literature.  To this end, she aspired to needlepoint all of the five biblical scrolls.  By the time she created Ruth, Ilana felt compelled to rush to achieve her goal.
